Influenza: the rebound in the epidemic continues and concerns “all age groups”, Occitania among the most affected regions

Last week, Public Health France warned of “a rebound in the epidemic” of influenza. This Wednesday, in his weekly report, the public health agency notes a “continued increase in all influenza indicators in all age groups”. However, an increase “less marked” than the previous week but still driven by the virus type B and Victoria.

Occitania among the regions most affected by the rise

Nationwide, during the week of February 6-12, 5,171 emergency room visits for flu-like illness have been recorded. That is 11% more than the previous week. THE hospitalizations following passing through the emergency services also increased: 776, or +17% compared to the end of January/beginning of February. As to incidence rate (number of new cases) consultations for flu-like illness, it stands at 174 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an indicator up 21% compared to the previous week.

The upward trend concerned 9 of the 13 metropolitan areas, and particularly Occitania, which remained, along with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, among the most affected regions. Currently, 11 of the 13 metropolitan areas are classified as epidemic phase. Only Normandy and Hauts-de-France appear in the “post-epidemic” phase during which the end of the epidemic is possible in the short term.
