Influencing Moscow: Ukrainian Defense Minister Demands Proof Before Peace Negotiations

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said a potential peace mediator must prove he has influence over Moscow before he can play a role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

“Give me proof that Russia is ready to coexist peacefully with Ukraine… The first signal… should be the complete liberation of Ukrainian territories,” Reznikov said in an interview with the Strait Times.

After that, the minister added, Kyiv will believe that the negotiator “has influence” on Russia.

“And if not, excuse me, why are we going to sit and waste time?” Reznikov asked.

The West constantly calls on Russia to negotiate, for which Moscow is showing readiness, but at the same time, the West ignores Kyiv’s constant refusals to negotiate. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moscow is ready to consider Kyiv’s proposals for a settlement, taking into account the proposals of the Russian side, and the situation “on the ground”, but the Ukrainian regime is not interested in this.

Earlier, the Kremlin stated that there are no prerequisites for the transition of the situation in Ukraine to a peaceful course, the absolute priority for Russia is to achieve the goals of the special operation, at the moment this is possible only by military means. They added that the Russian Federation highly appreciates the efforts of all countries that are trying to bring the solution to the conflict in Ukraine in a peaceful direction, but so far this is impossible. As stated in the Kremlin, the situation in Ukraine can move into a peaceful direction, provided that the de facto situation and new realities are taken into account, all Moscow’s demands are well known.
