Inflation is at an unprecedented level in 40 years in America

The inflation rate in the United States rose to 9.1 percent in June, which increases the difficulties faced by American families and puts US President Joe Biden under more pressure as public support for him declines due to the continuous rise in prices.

Government data released on Wednesday showed a sharper and faster-than-expected increase in the consumer price index compared to last month, driven by a sharp rise in gasoline prices.

The increase in the consumer price index, which rose to 9.1 percent on an annual basis up to June, is the fastest pace since November 1981, according to data from the Ministry of Labor.

Energy contributed half of the monthly increase, as gasoline jumped by 11.2 percent in June, and 59.9 percent during the last 12 months.

In total, energy prices witnessed the largest annual increase in history since April 1980. US President Joe Biden described the announced inflation figures as “unacceptably high”, but considered that they do not reflect the recent developments of a clear decline in energy prices since mid-June.

The president said in a statement that the recent drop in prices provides “an important respite for American families. The prices of other commodities such as wheat have fallen significantly since this report was released.”
