Inflation in food, an indigestible affair for everyone

Food prices continue to soar. A delayed effect which, on average, does not unreasonably fatten the margins of producers and distributors.

Dpleasing, even worrying for customers of supermarkets, bakers, cheese makers and butchers: while energy prices continue to fall following their insane rise last year, food products continue to become more expensive , as indicated by the February inflation figures published by Statbel on Monday. Between last month and the second month of 2022, food prices (including alcoholic beverages) increased by an average of 16.12%, thus contributing to almost half (3.06 points) of total inflation (6. 62%). Certain foodstuffs are particularly affected, such as eggs (+38.6%), whole milk (+33.5%), non-olive oils (+32%) and flour (24.2%).
