L’inflation affects all Belgian households. In a new study, HelloSafe has analyzed the most recent food inflation rates in Europe, with a particular focus on our country and the products that have increased the most in the last 12 months. With an annual food inflation rate of 19.4% in February 2023, Belgium is just above the European average of 19.1%.
“Rising prices can have a significant impact on the lives of Belgian consumers. In Belgium, the increase in the price of certain basic foodstuffs over the past 12 months is particularly impressive,” says HelloSafe. And for good reason, the annual inflation rate on eggs is 43.8% in February 2023, which makes this food product the most impacted by inflation in Belgium.
At the same time, the annual inflation rate on bread in the country reached 20%, once morest 5% a year earlier. The trend is the same for basic products such as edible oils (+39.9%) and potatoes (+30%), whose prices have been soaring for 12 months.
