Inflation: Bad news, discount brands increase by almost +10% in May

Consumer goods inflation rose again by +0.58% in May. All product lines are now impacted by inflation. Even the discount.

As at the beginning of each month, the Iri published, this Wednesday, June 1, its indicator of the evolution of the prices of consumer products.

The data delivered by IRI integrates the largest volume of data on the FMCG, drugstore, retail and media sectors. The monthly report is therefore always awaited with interest by professionals in the sector.

This month, for the IRI, 1-year inflation increased by another point to reach +3.81% overall. The savory grocery department is the most impacted with +5.14% overall, of which
+4.62% for national brands, +6.44% for distributor brands and, above all, +9.33% for entry-level brands. Already in April 2022, discount brands had increased by +6% in one month.

It should be noted that the Iri also makes the list of products and certain categories of products see their increase take off beyond +10% inflation.

Marked decline in aniseed aperitifs

Thus, frozen meats experienced the greatest increase in May (+18.16%) followed by pasta (+15.47%), minced meat (+14.56%), household pasta (+ 12.47%) and flour (+11.65%).

Conversely, dishwashing products are the most down (-2.95) followed by laundry care (-2.47%), vermouth (-2.47%), teeth (-2.17%) and… aniseed aperitifs (-2.09%).
