Inflation and Consumer Price Increases: July 2023 Analysis

In July 2023, consumer prices increased by 0.7% following rising by 0.4% the previous month. This increase is mainly explained by the increase in the prices of the group of food products and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.1%, and the prices of catering and hotel services by 2.3%.

Over one month, the prices of food products increased by 1.1%, following the rise in the price of coffee powder by 35%, fresh vegetables by 5.5% and fresh fruits by 1.6%. On the other hand, egg prices fell by 3.7% and sheepmeat prices fell by 0.2%.

Over one month, prices for catering and hotel services increased by 2.3%, following the rise in prices for restaurant and cafe services by 1.4% and prices for hotel services by 9 .2%.

In July, the prices of products and services of the group “furniture and household articles and routine household maintenance” increased by 0.9% mainly due to the rise in prices of household appliances by 1.1% and goods and services routine home maintenance by 0.9%.

The inflation rate fell to 9.1% once morest 9.3% in June. This decline in inflation, despite the monthly increase, is due to the deceleration in the pace of price increases between July and June of this year compared to the same period last year. Indeed, a decline is observed in the annual rate of increase in the prices of the “food products” group, dropping from 15.2% to 14.2%, in the prices of the “clothing and footwear” group whose rate of increase rises from 9.7% to 9.4% and for the prices of the “furniture, household items and routine household maintenance” group, the annual shift of which rises from 9.7% to 9.5%.

In July 2023, food prices increased by 14.2% over one year. This increase is mainly due to the increase in the price of coffee powder by 35%, sheep meat by 32.5%, beef by 21.6%, edible oils by 20.2%, eggs by 19, 3% and fresh fruit 14.6%.

Over one year, the prices of manufactured products increased by 7.7% due to the rise in the price of building materials by 6.8%, clothing products by 9.4% and routine maintenance products household by 8.9%. For services, the price increase was 6.5% over one year, mainly explained by the rise in prices for restaurant, cafe and hotel services by 11.2%, public and private transport services by 15, 3% and financial services 20.7%.

The core inflation rate excluding food and energy( fell back slightly to stand at 7.3% following 7.4% the previous month. The prices of free products )uncontrolled( increased by 10.3 % over one year The prices of regulated products increased by 5.1% Free food products increased by 16.4% once morest 2.2% for regulated food products.
