Nutrition365 – Infant food diversification once morest allergies

Initiated in April 2011, the French study Elfe follows children from birth to adulthood, in order to better understand the factors that influence their development, their health, their socialization and their school career. Thus, approximately 150 researchers study and follow more than 18,000 children. These studies, piloted by INRAE, and in particular CRESS – INRAE/Inserm/Université Paris Cité, INED and the University Hospital of Nancy, were published in the journal Allergy.

Diversify the diet of children from 4 to 6 months

Thus, the scientists found that only 62% of children started food diversification over the recommended period, i.e. between 4 and 6 months. They also observed that for 1 in 10 children, at least 2 major allergens, among eggs, fish, wheat and dairy products, are not yet introduced into the diet by the age of 10 months. However, these same children have a risk twice as high of developing a food allergy before the age of 5.5 years as those for whom the 4 allergens considered are introduced before the age of 10 months.
