The lawyer would have allowed an exchange of information between her imprisoned client and his contacts, located outside his detention centre. The Dutch public prosecutor confirmed on his website on Friday followingnoon that Inez Weski was suspected of having participated in a criminal organization, of having engaged in international drug trafficking and money laundering, as well as of breach of professional secrecy.
“The lawyer is suspected of having abused her position by transmitting messages between her client’s criminal organization and the latter,” it read. The suspicions relating to the lawyer appeared during the summer of 2022, thanks to the decryption of messages from the SkyECC system, also indicated the prosecutor, specifying that the lawyer’s home and his office in Rotterdam were searched on Friday.
The investigation into Ms Weski has been ongoing for some time and the prosecution believes it has enough evidence at its disposal following the phone decryptions. However, the prosecutor wanted to wait for the end of the lawyer’s arguments in an ongoing case, which has now been done since this week.
