INE reports a 57.3% drop in Ñuble exports during 2023 – La Discusión

In December 2023, exports from the Ñuble region reached US$34.5 million, which represented a decrease of 61.6%, compared to the same month in 2022, as reported by the INE.

This is the twenty-first consecutive drop in the monthly indicator, reaffirming the downward trend that began to be observed in April 2022.

The lower dynamism of exports was mainly due to the Industry sector, which with US$26.6 million, showed a decrease of 67.9%. In this sector, the food branch totaled shipments of US$18.7 million, a value that increased 21.8% in 12 months. Meanwhile, Rest of Industry, with US$6.1 million, showed a year-on-year drop of 90.5%, attributable to the pulp crisis. Likewise, the Forestry branch, which includes wood shipments, showed a decrease of 40% compared to December 2022.

On the other hand, the Forestry and Agricultural sector added shipments of US$7.7 million, presenting a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. In this sector, the fruit growing branch, which added exports of US$6.8 million, registered a year-on-year growth of 8.7%. The rest of forestry and agricultural products, with a total of US$0.8 million, recorded an increase of 81.7%.

Berries, cherries and wines

In December 2023, Ñuble’s exports of berries and cherries reached US$ 15.0 million, recording a year-on-year growth of 47.6%, which translated into an additional US$ 4.8 million. According to subcontinent, shipments of berries and cherries were led by North America as a destination, with 66.6% participation, presenting a year-on-year increase of 51.1%.

On the other hand, wine exports totaled US$ 400 thousand, showing a growth of 223.0% in twelve months. By subcontinent, North America accounted for 67.8% of regional wine shipments, increasing 241.1% compared to December 2022.

Destinations

In December of last year, the United States was the main destination country for regional products, totaling US$12.6 million, with a share of 36.5% and an increase of 20.4% compared to December 2022, being the products associated with the Food and Fruit growing branches, which led the shipments.

For its part, China concentrated 15.0% of Ñuble’s total exports, reaching US$5.2 million, decreasing 90.5% in twelve months, with pulp and fruit growing being the main branches of products exported to that country.

In third place is the Netherlands, with US$1.3 million and a 3.7% share.

Accumulated variation of 2023

In this way, in the accumulated of 2023, the Ñuble region added shipments for a total of US$538.8 million, which represents a decrease of 57.3% compared to 2022.
