“Industrial Vehicle Market in France: Analysis of the Winners and Losers in 2022”

It is rare that in France such a slight variation is observed in the volumes of registrations of new industrial vehicles: with only a 0.3% drop, the year 2022 is almost at the level of the previous one (more than 5 t ), according to figures from the industrial vehicle branch of the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA).

Still, not all segments and all competitors have benefited from the same stability.

  • The truck tractor markettotaling 25,418 registrations, marked a clear recovery to +11.8%.
  • That of heavy carriers sank to -3.5% and that that of medium tonnage carriers collapsed to -34.6%.

As for the results by brand, they show huge disparities.

Among the “winners”, Daf frankly stands out. With an increase of 13.5%, the Dutch manufacturer jumped from fourth to second place. A first for the brand, due to its sales of tractors, up 22.5%.

Volvo Trucks also took advantage of the period with an increase of 9.5% which brings it to 14% market share.

As for Mercedesalthough its registrations increased slightly by 2.7%, it might not avoid demoting from second to fourth place.

The “losers” are taken by Scania which loses almost two points of penetration, followed by MAN and Iveco.

Renault Trucks, for its part, lost 0.4 point of penetration, despite good resistance in rigid vehicles where its penetration rose to 38.9%.

Finally, there remains the case of the “miscellaneous” whose spectacular increase is the consequence of theentry of Ford Trucks into the French market. Since Ford Trucks France has not provided us with its registrations, its results remain submerged in the “miscellaneous” category, which also includes manufacturers of mobile cranes (including Liebherr, with 99 units). According to some sources, however, 420 Ford tractors would have been registered in 2022.
