On Wednesday followingnoon, the St.Gallen cantonal police announced the death of a 57-year-old Croatian. The condition of the second worker was critical, it was said at the time. It is now clear: the second employee, a 54-year-old Sri Lankan, has now died from his injuries in the hospital, as the St.Gallen cantonal police announced on Thursday morning.

A sudden drop in pressure led to the accident

The accident happened early Monday followingnoon around 1:45 p.m. when the pressure in a pressure vessel suddenly escaped for reasons that are still unknown. The two workers who were in the area of ​​the container suffered severe burns. The rescue service that was deployed looked following the injured before they were flown to the hospital by two Rega helicopters.

In addition to several patrols from the St.Gallen canton police, specialists from the forensic competence center and a medical operations manager, the rescue service, two Rega helicopters, the responsible fire brigades, psychological first aid and the public prosecutor’s office of the canton of St.Gallen were also deployed.

The reason for the sudden drop in pressure is still unclear and is the subject of ongoing investigations. “This is a very complex investigation,” says Häderli. In a first step, the specialists have to have the equipment explained to them and familiarize themselves with the technology.
