Indonesian Jazz MAESTRO Indra Lesmana worked on his latest Jazz music album in Sydney, Australia with his musical colleagues, in conjunction with International Jazz Day.

“I am very happy and grateful to be able to return to music with my musical colleagues in Sydney. This is a priceless historical moment,” said Indra in a press release, Tuesday (16/4).

Indra Lesmana’s latest music project is fully supported by Paulus Family Pty Ltd, which is owned by the Indonesian diaspora in Australia, Ivan Paulus and his wife, Shirley Lim.

Ivan, apart from being a successful businessman and economic actor in Australia as well as an advisor at the Australian Business Council (Indonesia Business Council/IBC), is also one of the executive producers on Indra Lesmana’s project entitled Sydney Reunion.

Sydney Reunion is Indra’s project to reunite his fellow musicians in Sydney, Australia who were involved in Indra’s recording project and made music together in 1982.

They are Steve Hunter (bass), who was involved in the No Standing album, Dale Barlow (saxophone), who was involved in the Children of Fantasy project. and Andrew Gander (drums).

Together with Indra and Ivan, the three musicians will return to produce their latest recording live in Sydney, Australia next May, and it will be released on digital broadcast platforms, compact disc and loose disc.

“I really hope that this project can become a good documentary work and provide inspiration for the music generation in Indonesia and Australia,” said Indra.

Apart from that, Indra also supported Ivan Paulus’ single release recording project (saxophone), with Indra involved in preparing two arrangements.

“I am always interested in special talents and support the musical enthusiasm of every person everywhere. In the spirit of International Jazz Day, I hope that the life of jazz music will grow even better. I also hope that my production work with Ivan can be received and appreciated positively and become an encouragement for the music generation to continue working,” explained Indra.

Meanwhile, Ivan hopes that Indra’s presence in Sydney, along with International Jazz Day, can create collaborative works with Kevin Hunt from the Sydney College of Music.

Hunt is the Director of Jazz Performance and Improvised Music in the Bachelor of Music Study Program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

“We hope that this art project and collaboration can produce positive things, not only in creating work and creating new history but also in opening up greater opportunities for improving bilateral relations between Australia and Indonesia,” said Ivan.

Indra Lesmana is a musician, composer, producer from Indonesia. Known as a jazz maestro from Indonesia who has a special reputation in music through the creativity, productivity and inspiration he provides to generations of Indonesian music.

Born in Jakarta, March 28 1966, Indra is the youngest son of legendary Indonesian jazz figure Jack Lesmana and Nien Lesmana. Meanwhile, her older sister, Mira Lesmana, is a successful film producer.

Indra’s musical career began at the age of eight by continuing his interest and improvisational abilities on piano and keyboard instruments.

Indra Lesmana’s life in Sydney, Australia began when he received a music scholarship in 1979 to study at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music (now the Sydney Conservatorium of Music) in 1982.

There, Indra formed the music group Nebula with his friends in Sydney, namely Steve Hunter, Kent James, Andy Evans, Vince Genova, Carlinhos Goncalvez, and made a record album entitled No Standing.

During the same period, Indra and his father Jack Lesmana also created the Children of Fantasy music project with one of the supporting musicians being Dale Barlow.

When he was 18 years old, Indra was signed by the American record company MCA Records, which was interested in producing and distributing two solo albums in his name entitled For Earth And Heaven and No Standing.

Indra was appointed as an Indonesian Idol judge from 2003 to 2007. He has also received various awards and appeared several times to represent Indonesia at international events.

Indra has released 98 album recordings including 63 solo/duo/group projects and thousands of musical compositions in various musical genres, and is still consistent and active in making music and building the music community to this day. (Ant/Z-1)
