The comics are suing the naming of Open Mic Indonesia which has been registered as a trademark at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property. Ramon Papana has registered the term since June 5, 2015 as a brand belonging to the class of entertainment, radio entertainment and television entertainment. Listed on the site is Ramon Pratomo or comedian Ramon Papana as the owner.

The comics took legal steps to file this lawsuit. The registration of patents and trademarks by Ramon Papana is considered disturbing and disturbing to stand-up comedians in Indonesia.
“This registration has clearly disturbed and disturbed comic book friends because the party who registered this lawsuit sent summons everywhere asking for payment for every event entitled Open Mic,” Panji Prasetyo as attorney at the Central Jakarta Commercial Court.
“This is clearly very unreasonable and the patience of my comic friends has run out, they contacted us and today came the point that one filed a trademark cancellation lawsuit and asked the court to restore the Open Mic brand to become public property,” he added.
Mo Sidik is one of the comedians affected by the patent registration. As explained by his colleague, Pandji Pragiwaksono, Mo Sidik had a subpoena worth Rp 1 billion because of this.
The party who owns the trademark said that the registration of patent rights was carried out so that people outside the arts would not use the term ‘open mic’ arbitrarily. But in the end, the comedians who are already identical with open mics are affected.
“I actually had a chat with him, then he said so that people outside the arts don’t take advantage of it. But in practice, comics that we admire, we love, get hit, my friend also gets Rp 1 billion,” said Pandji Pragiwaksono when met at the Commercial Court. Central Jakarta on the same occasion.
After being subpoenaed in 2019, Mo Sidik admitted that he might not sleep for up to three weeks. Even though everyone wants to be safe.
“We want to be safe, the Rp 1 billion subpoena was frankly two, three weeks I mightn’t sleep. Boro-boro wanted to make a joke. If I got hit in 2019,” explained Mo Sidik.
