The Indonesian woodball TEAM brought home three gold medals and two silver medals from the 9th World Cup Woodball Championship 2024 which took place in Shangyu, China, 14-21 October. The neat performance of the Indonesian woodball team is a sign that the athletes are ready to compete on the world stage.

Gold medals were presented by Muhammad Khadiq, Susila Marga Nugraha, Untung Ariska, and Pratama Aditya who competed in the men’s team stroke event.

Marga won his second gold medal when he appeared in the men’s single stroke event after beating his partner Aditya who won a silver medal.

The third gold medal was won by Siti Mashita from the women’s single stroke event. Siti also won a silver medal when competing in the mixed double stroke number with Marga.

“I feel like getting a gold medal at this World Cup event, thank God, I am grateful and very happy to be able to fly the Red and White flag in China and be able to make the name of the Indonesian nation proud,” said Marga.

For Marga, this is his second appearance at the World Cup after the 2013 edition. He admitted that he was more prepared to appear because he was more observant in reading the strengths of his opponents.

“This is the second World Cup, in 2013 too. Now I am better prepared and know the opponent’s strengths better than when I first appeared. Moreover, the games from PON to the World Cup are very close, so the aura is still carried over, really on fire to fight,” he continued.

This success is a source of pride because Indonesia also faced strong teams such as China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The General Chair of the Indonesian Woodball Association (IWbA), Aang Sunadji, said that this achievement was not only a matter of pride for athletes but also showed the significant development of the sport of woodball in the country.

“We are of course very proud of the achievements of the athletes in the 2024 World Cup. Especially because Indonesia was able to win the champion title in men’s and women’s single stroke. “This shows that Indonesia is not the champion at home, but we can see how the athletes are on fire, very enthusiastic and fighting to win,” said Aang.
