Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives Junimart Girsang assessed that the government should not be biased in giving instructions to regional governments (Pemda) regarding the use of domestic goods.
“There is no need to demand that local governments use domestic products. If local governments have no choice but to use domestic products, it might be due to a lack of budget. Don’t force it,” he said, Wednesday (10/7).
In fact, according to this PDI Perjuangan politician, the reluctance to buy local products is due to different quality. Imported products, whether they are recognized or not, are of better quality than UMKM products.
“For example, the quality of shoes. Sometimes we even buy used imported products. Why is it because it is comfortable to use (quality). We don’t need to demand the local government to use domestic products.”
With these conditions, MSMEs must be encouraged to improve quality. Meanwhile, the government should not be stingy in helping to advance MSMEs to compete with imported products.
“Indeed, this concerns education and also the quality of domestic products. Another issue is the price, don’t compete with imported products, so fight for the people,” he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo reprimanded regional governments that were still buying imported goods. He expressed this in front of regional heads at the XVI Apkasi National Working Meeting in 2024, Wednesday (10/7)
“The use of domestic products, this is what I checked, it is still at 41%. The use of domestic products is still 41% for districts and cities, 41% is still small, meaning that other than that, imported products,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi regrets the practice of using imported goods. Because, he considers collecting money from state revenues is very difficult, both taxes, PNBP, royalties and dividends. When collected, the Minister of Finance will transfer to the regions (TKD). (Sru/Z-7)
