DIRECTOR of Democracy and Electoral Empowerment Partnership (DEEP) Neni Nur Hayati emphasized that the House of Representatives (DPR RI) needs to immediately submit the name of a replacement for Hasyim Asy’ari who was dismissed as Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU).

Neni explained that it was necessary to appoint a replacement for Hasyim to fill the vacancy in the KPU Commissioner position.

In addition, the 2024 simultaneous election stages will face a crucial phase in the nomination process, so the level of complexity is also increasing.

“So the presence of Hasyim’s replacement commissioner is very crucial for the improvement and also the election of a definitive chairman to improve internal conditions,” said Neni to Media Indonesia, Wednesday (10/6).

“The DPR no longer needs to manipulate and politicize the results. fit and proper test in commission 2 which has been held,” he added.

Neni said that there were many things that needed to be fixed, including the idea of ​​reopening registration for individual candidates.

Neni also emphasized that the DPR needs to be sensitive in the current situation. So, said Neni, it is expected to immediately submit names to be inaugurated by the President.

“Iffa Rosita is clearly in ninth place following Viryan (Commissioner of the Indonesian KPU 2017-2022). We all know that Mr. Viryan passed away on May 21, 2022 due to illness,” he said.

“So, the next replacement candidate is Iffa Rosita who is currently a commissioner of the East Kalimantan Provincial KPU,” said Neni.

If the government postpones and delays the inauguration of the new commissioner to replace Hasyim, Neni said this would raise questions from the public.

“This will also have serious implications for the credibility and reputation of the KPU. With the current conditions, there should be no need to delay any longer, the conditions are urgent,” said Neni.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had signed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 73P dated July 9, 2024 concerning the dishonorable dismissal of Hasyim Asy’ari as a member of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU).

This was conveyed by the Coordinator of the President’s Special Staff, Ari Dwipayana, via a short message to journalists in Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7).

Responding to this, member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that his party appreciated the Presidential Decree on Hasyim’s dismissal which was issued quickly.

Then, Mardani emphasized that Commission II would immediately hold a meeting with the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) to determine Hasyim’s replacement.
