Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia Holds Graduation Ceremony for 55 PMI UT Graduates

A total of 55 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Malaysia who took the Open University (UT) Distance Education program were declared graduates and graduated, Sunday (29/9/2022).

The graduation ceremony led by Deputy Chancellor II Prof Dr Ali Muktiyanto, SE, M.Si, took place in the Hassanuddin Hall of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This year, the event was also attended by Education and Cultural Attaché Muhammad Firdaus, Director of UT Medan Yasir Riyadi, Chairman of IKA UT for North Sumatra Region Muhammad Syarfi Hutauruk, and Coordinator of UT for all of Malaysia Taufiqurrahman Hasyim Salengke.

It was recorded that 55 students from PMI managed to graduate on time with a very satisfactory average score. Their daily activities in Malaysia include working in the industrial, restaurant and construction sectors. The Best UT Graduate in Malaysia in 2024 was Ulfa Dwi Retnaningsih with a GPA of 3.78 from the Accounting Study Program, FEB UT.

In his speech, Atdikbud Muhammad Firdaus emphasized the concept long live education. “We hope that with this educational attainment as a graduate, we can have a real impact on career advancement in the workplace or even be able to create our own job opportunities,” said Firdaus in a statement broadcast, Tuesday (1/10).

Meanwhile, Deputy Chancellor II Ali Muktiyanto expressed his thanks to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, who he said was attentive in helping the Open University facilitate various student activities in Malaysia.

On the same occasion, Chairman of IKA UT Muhammad Syarfi Hutauruk expressed his admiration that PMI can not only work to earn money. While studying, they can also increase their educational capacity, so they can return to their homeland with money and a university degree.

On the same day, after the graduation ceremony took place, it was also followed by the New Student Study Orientation (OSMB) event which was attended by 150 new UT Pokjar Kuala Lumpur students.

This year’s UT Graduation Ceremony and OSMB were enlivened by the performance of the UTKL dance team. The graduation ceremony took place solemnly and smoothly. Meanwhile, the OSMB event was interactive and lively. (B-3)
