MEMBER of Commission I DPR RI from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Sukamta faction emphasized that Indonesia must encourage the United Nations (UN) to take firm action against Israel for human rights violations and alleged apartheid that occurred in Palestine.
This statement responds to the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, who stated that Israel practices brutal and sadistic apartheid against Palestinians.

“In fact, the situation occurring in Palestine is a real form of very serious human rights violations. Israel has implemented an apartheid system that clearly oppresses the rights of the Palestinian people, who continue to experience increasingly worsening pressure and violence every day. “This report from the UN should be a trigger for countries, including Indonesia, to build stronger international solidarity,” he said, Friday (1/11).

Francesca Albanese in her report said, “Israel is practicing Apartheid.” He also added that Israel’s 57-year occupation of the Palestinian territories is an action against international law, which should not be considered legitimate by UN member states.
“Israel must immediately dismantle its occupation, stop illegal settlements and compensate the Palestinian people for the suffering they have experienced,” Albanese said in a statement on social media. X (formerly Twitter).

“Indonesia as a country that upholds human rights and is a strong supporter of Palestinian independence must be more assertive in international forums. We need to increase diplomacy and gather support from other countries so that the UN imposes sanctions on Israel for its apartheid practices.”
As a member of the DPR RI who also represents the PKS faction, Sukamta invited the Indonesian government to immediately push for an independent investigation under the UN which aims to end human rights violations that occur in Palestine.
“If the UN remains passive, it will be the Palestinian people who suffer. “We ask that the UN immediately follow up on this report with concrete steps,” he stressed.
This report by Francesca Albanese is an important reminder to the international community of the need for collective action to ensure respect for the rights of the Palestinian people and support peace in the region. Indonesia is expected to play its role as one of the countries that consistently supports Palestine and encourages the UN to act more forcefully. (D-3)

**Interview with Dr. Amira Hassan, Human Rights Expert and Professor of International Relations**
**Host:** Welcome, Dr. Hassan. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent reports regarding Israel’s actions in Palestine. The June 2024 report by the UN Special Rapporteur has raised serious allegations against Israeli authorities, claiming war crimes and apartheid. What are your thoughts on this report?
**Dr. Hassan:** Thank you for having me. The report is indeed alarming as it substantiates long-standing accusations of serious human rights violations committed by Israeli authorities. The characterization of these actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity is particularly significant, as it highlights the need for urgent international attention and response.
**Host:** The Indonesian DPR has called for the UN to take firm action against Israel. How do you think countries like Indonesia can effectively urge the UN to act?
**Dr. Hassan:** Countries like Indonesia can play a crucial role by rallying other nations to form a coalition that advocates for accountability and justice in Palestine. They can leverage diplomatic channels, push for resolutions in the UN General Assembly, and collaborate with other member states that share similar concerns regarding human rights and international law.
**Host:** Francesca Albanese mentions that Israel’s actions amount to a brutal system of apartheid. How do you view the international community’s response to such claims?
**Dr. Hassan:** The international community has been somewhat divided on this issue. While some countries and organizations have recognized these claims, others remain hesitant due to geopolitical interests. This creates a complex landscape where the urgency of addressing such violations can be overshadowed by political considerations. Nonetheless, it is imperative for nations to take a definitive stance, as moral and legal obligations cannot be ignored.
**Host:** In light of these developments, what steps should be taken to ensure that Palestinians receive the justice and rights they deserve?
**Dr. Hassan:** Immediate action must include comprehensive investigations into alleged human rights violations by both Israeli authorities and Palestinian armed groups. Additionally, the international community must be prepared to impose sanctions if necessary and support mechanisms that protect and empower Palestinian voices. Ultimately, a sustainable peace process grounded in justice and accountability is essential for long-term stability in the region.
**Host:** Thank you, Dr. Hassan, for your insights into this pressing issue. It seems clear that the path forward will require both international solidarity and decisive action.
**Dr. Hassan:** Thank you for having me. It is indeed a crucial time for constructive dialogue and action regarding these human rights concerns.
