DU died during riots in Bangladesh(Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, reported that an Indonesian citizen (WNI) with the initials DU died during the riots in the country. His body will soon be returned to Indonesia.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka received information regarding an Indonesian citizen named DU who died in Jashore, Bangladesh on August 5, 2024,” said the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, Tuesday (6/8).

According to Judha, DU died from inhaling too much smoke because the hotel where he was staying caught fire amid the riots. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said DU had just arrived in Bangladesh on August 1, 2024 for a business visit.

“DU died from inhaling too much smoke because the hotel where the deceased was staying caught fire in the midst of the riots,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted his family in Indonesia to convey condolences and will facilitate the repatriation of his body, in collaboration with his employer.

Regarding the security situation in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka have again appealed to Indonesian citizens to increase their vigilance, avoid crowds and demonstration locations and follow the contingency measures directed by the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka.

“For Indonesian citizens who have travel plans to Bangladesh, they are advised to postpone their travel to Bangladesh until the security situation and conditions improve,” he added.
