THE Indonesian government consistently expects all forms of escalation of violence occurring in the Middle East to be stopped. Israel is obliged to comply with international law.
“The Indonesian government is closely following the developments with great concern because the escalation continues to increase, especially along with the increasing Israeli attacks on Lebanon which have caused many casualties,” said the Director General of Asia Pacific and Africa at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Kadir Jailani, in a press briefing in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday (20/9).
He also said that Indonesia expects Israel to comply with international law, especially international humanitarian law. Jailani emphasized that the most important thing to do now is to stop the violence in Gaza and to push for a ceasefire to be realized soon.
“Because we see that the violence in Gaza is the root cause of the problem,” he explained.
He hopes that wider access can be provided so that humanitarian aid can be distributed to all areas in Gaza. Jailani also emphasized that lasting peace in the Middle East can be realized if a two-state solution is achieved.
In addition, Jailani explained that the Indonesian Government is committed to protecting all Indonesian citizens, including in places with the potential for conflict.
“For Indonesian citizens, we have indeed carried out a contingency plan to anticipate all challenges that arise in all areas that have the potential for conflict,” said Jailani. (I-2)
