A Canadian actor and self-proclaimed wellness guru is set to be deported from the Indonesian island of Bali following a video went viral of him dancing naked on a mountain considered sacred.
Jeffrey Craigen uploaded a video of himself doing the haka, a ceremonial dance of New Zealand Maori culture, standing naked on top of Mount Batur, a volcano many Balinese consider sacred.
He was arrested and questioned on Monday following numerous complaints from Internet users who accused him of not respecting the religious values of the island.
Craigen is currently awaiting deportation, but authorities say the airlines don’t want to take him because he hasn’t been vaccinated once morest COVID-19.
“The airlines have not agreed (to transport it),” Tedy Riyandi told AFP, head of the immigration office of the city of Denpasar.
The actor will be placed on a blacklist that will prevent him from entering Bali in the near future, officials said.
Craigen has been in Indonesia since the end of 2019 as a tourist and a student of alternative treatments for osteoporosis, said the head of the Bali migration office, Jamaruli Manihuruk.
The Canadian claimed not to know that the mountain was a sacred site.
“To all foreigners visiting Bali, please Please behave in accordance with respect for our law and Balinese cultural valuesManihuruk pointed out.
