Indonesia Suspends Visa-Free Regime for 159 Countries: Impact on Tourism and Quality Improvement

The Indonesian authorities will not return the visa-free regime for Russian citizens. And also 158 other countries. About it informs June 22 INTERFAX.RU with reference to The Jakarta Post.

“Visa-free visits by citizens of these 159 countries have proven to be ineffective,” Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said.

The minister also stressed that the abolition of the visa-free regime (suspended for 159 countries on June 7, 2023) “will not harm the tourism industry, but, on the contrary, will improve the quality of tourism.”

Recall that the issue of “quality of tourism” has been worrying Indonesians for a long time. For example, in Bali, local residents have long been tired of guests, especially from guests from Russia.

“As tourists, you are prohibited from working for any job in Indonesia. Any foreign citizen showing disrespect or violating the current laws of Indonesia will be deported or denied entry,” the billboards read. In general, it is understandable.

And at the end of May, the Indonesian authorities came from the other side. And they said that tourists who use cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services will be punished – also up to deportation. And in the future – up to imprisonment for up to five years.
