MINISTER of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said that Indonesia is experiencing a shortage of around 200 airplanes. As a means of air transportation, airplanes are very important to connect all regions in the country and encourage equitable development.

“We are short of 200 aircraft so that coverage of points throughout Indonesia is better,” he said at the Bali International Airshow 2024 press conference, Monday (19/8).

According to Budi, the Indonesian aviation sector experienced growth until 2019. However, after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the aviation world began to sluggish both in terms of demand and supply.

“We did see this aviation growing rapidly until 2019, but during Covid-19, both demand and supply declined,” he added.

Through the Bali International Airshow 2024, it is hoped that it can again encourage growth in the aviation sector. One of them is through foreign investment entering the country.

“In this airshow opportunity, there is one important thing that the world community sees Indonesia for airport investment, we offer KPBU, if there are foreign investors, of course this will provide a new experience. Currently, many countries from the Middle East are collaborating with BUMN,” he said. (N-2)
