Indonesia’s development planning ministry said on Monday that Indonesia was set to lose its place as the world’s fourth most populous country by 2045 amid a slowing birth rate.
Survey results at the ministry prepared in conjunction with statistical agencies stating that Indonesia’s population growth will slow to 0.4% in 2045 from 1.17% last year, meaning that within the next 22 years Indonesia will have a population of 324 million, behind Nigeria and Pakistan.
Suharzo Monoarfa, Minister for Development Planning, said: “Our population growth is slowing every year. The average annual growth is 0.67% during 2020 – 2050.”
