MINISTER of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo and Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of sports between the two countries.

“We have sports programs and we hope to collaborate with Indonesia,” said Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov as reported by Antara, Thursday (26/9).

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov explained the current condition of sports in Russia in general, as well as how the Government of the Russian Federation, through the Ministry of Sports, builds and develops sports.

Sergey also discussed the agenda for commemorating the Russian Federation’s diplomatic relations with Indonesia in 2025. In this agenda, the Russian Federation Government also intends to hold a friendly sports match between the two countries.

Dito welcomed the offer of cooperation from the Government of the Russian Federation. The Minister of Youth and Sports said that Indonesia and Russia have long-standing good relations, therefore the proposal for cooperation in several sports is certainly something that needs to be followed up.

“Moreover, the programs presented are specific,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

According to Dito, one of the sports that is of concern for wider introduction in Russia is pencak silat. This is because Indonesia, through its elected President Prabowo Subianto, who also serves as president of the International Pencak Silat Federation (Persilat), is trying to ensure that this original Indonesian martial arts sport can be competed in at the Olympics.

The Minister of Youth and Sports also welcomed Russia’s desire to hold friendly sports matches between the two countries. It is hoped that this friendly match will not only include football, but also other potential sports such as volleyball which is of great interest to the Indonesian people.

“There is a lot that can be collaborated with Russia. For now we will focus on the proposed sports programs,” said Dito. (Z-6)
