President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH) or Telecommunication Equipment Testing Center (BBPPT) in Depok, West Java, Tuesday (7/5).
Jokowi said that in the last two months, he was visited by two CEOs of world giant technology companies, namely Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Microsoft Corporation CEO Satya Nadella. From these two visits, the President continued to express the same thing, namely that Indonesia should not just be a spectator and market for world technology
“We have to become players, become producers,” said Jokowi when inaugurating BBPPT.
He also feels grateful because now Indonesia has BBPPT, which is an international standard equipment testing center, the largest and most comprehensive in Southeast Asia. The facility will be the leading digital device certification center in the region.
To build BBPPT, the budget needed reaches IDR 980 billion.
“So if the equipment is super sophisticated, don’t be surprised. Because the budget is large, almost IDR 1 trillion,” said Jokowi.

Device testing plays a very crucial role. Before being marketed, all digital devices such as laptops, cell phones, Bluetooth, access points, digital television, handy talkies, radar and so on will be tested at BBPPT.
This is done to ensure that security, health and safety standards for people who use digital devices can be met.
The President hopes that BBPPT will not only be a certification test site.

“It must not stop at just providing tools and technology, but also become a place to encourage innovation, strengthen the local digital technology ecosystem with easy access to certification,” stressed the former mayor of Surakarta.
The President asked the Ministry of Communication and Information to encourage BBPPT to become a research and development (R&D) center, collaborate with universities, startups and MSMEs, encourage research and patents, support the development, testing and certification of local products so that domestic digital products can compete.
“This is what we created together. Digitalization is the basis for domestic industrial and economic development, by placing local producers as kings in their own country,” he stressed. (Z-11)
