The Indonesian contingent was finally able to exceed the medal target at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. As of Monday (2/9) 23.30 WIB, 11 medals had been obtained, consisting of 1 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze.

The gold was won in the para badminton event and was contributed by Leani Ratri Oktilla/Hikmat Ramdani who defeated Khalimatus Sadiyah/Fredy Setiawan in the All Indonesian Final of the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 with a score of 21-16 and 21-15.

It was Leani’s third gold medal from the Paralympics. Previously at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Leani also won gold from the same number, but at that time she was paired with Hary Susanto. She won another gold from the women’s doubles number when she was paired with Khalimatus.

Then for the silver that Indonesia got at this Paralympics, it came from the para athletics (1), boccia (1), para badminton (4). Then the bronze came from the para badminton (2) and boccia (2) branches.

The achievement of 11 medals was said to have been exceeded because as conveyed by the Chief de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent, Reda Manthovani, the number of medals that were considered realistic to be obtained was only 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.

“Realistically, we are targeting Indonesia’s medal achievement at the 2024 Paris Paralympics to be 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze,” said Reda recently.

“We believe that this target will be achieved through mature and serious efforts and preparations that have been made by all our athletes, officials and other related parties,” he said.

The result of 11 medals places Indonesia in 29th place in the medal standings. China leads with a total of 84 medals (42 gold, 29 silver, and 13 bronze). Followed by England in second place with 52 medals (28, 14, and 10), and the United States in third place with 39 medals (12, 17, and 10). (Z-6)
