INDONESIA confirmed that it will send representatives in all sectors of badminton to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Even though the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) matches are still taking place in Ningbo, China, the points and rankings earned by Indonesian athletes so far have secured their tickets to the biggest sporting event in the world.

Indonesia will be represented by Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in men’s singles, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in women’s singles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto in men’s doubles, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in women’s doubles, and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari in doubles mixture.

“Thank God, we have achieved an important milestone on the road to the Olympics. This is the result of perseverance in carrying out the process from athletes, coaches, officials and support teams. This achievement is also the result of an effective strategy in compiling a road map for athletes in participating in various tournaments throughout “This year. This is the result of collective work,” Head of the PBSI 2024 Paris Olympics Ad Hoc Team, M Fadil Imran.

Badminton follows a number of other Indonesian sports that have confirmed their participation in this year’s Olympics, namely archery, artistic gymnastics, shooting, rock climbing, surfing, weightlifting and athletics.

Fadil added, following securing qualification for the Olympics, badminton athletes still have to fight to improve their seeded or profitable superior position. This is what will be pursued in the ongoing BAC events, the Thomas & Uber Cup, and the Indonesia Open in early June.

“This also requires an accurate strategy and the readiness of the athletes. “Hopefully the certainty of this ticket will give new enthusiasm to the athletes and the entire team,” said Fadil.

In Paris there will be a total of 172 athletes competing in five badminton sectors. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which were held during the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia brought home the women’s doubles gold medal won by Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and the men’s singles bronze medal won by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

“I appreciate all parties involved in the preparations for this Olympics because they have moved with one vision, one spirit, to give the best for the Red and White. “Thank you also to all Indonesian people who continue to give us prayers, support, criticism and suggestions,” said Fadil. (Z-3)
