Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Thursday he urged G7 leaders at their latest summit to ensure that sanctions once morest Russia did not affect food and fertilizer supplies to the world.
Widodo, the current G20 chair, added that global food supply issues would not improve if Russian fertilizer and Ukrainian wheat were not available.
The Indonesian president was speaking at a press conference alongside his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin following a bilateral meeting in the capital, Moscow.
The West imposed sanctions on Russia following its military operation in Ukraine, which began on February 24.
On Wednesday, the Indonesian president began a trip to Kyiv and Moscow to play the role of peace negotiator between the two countries. Yesterday, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital, Kyiv.
Widodo’s trip to Russia and Ukraine follows his attendance at the G7 summit in Germany as the current G20 chair.
