ISTANBUL, June 4 (Archyde.com) – Airbus AIR.PA is set to secure a record order for 500 A320 Family single-aisle aircraft from Indian airline IndiGo INGL.NS, industry sources said on Sunday.

The European aircraft manufacturer is seen as the favorite for this order which should exceed that of principle relating to 470 planes carried out in February by Air India, declared the sources on the sidelines of the annual meeting of Iata (the International Transport Association air) in Istanbul.

According to industry analysts, such an order would represent some $50 billion at list prices. However, discounts are generally granted by manufacturers.

Airbus and Boeing BA.N are also competing in separate negotiations to sell 25 wide-body A330neo or Boeing 787 aircraft to Indigo, the sources said.

IndiGo chief executive Pieter Elbers, present at the industry meeting in Istanbul, declined to comment on the trade filings.

Airbus and Boeing also declined to comment.

Archyde.com had already reported in March that IndiGo, whose market share in India is 56%, was in talks with Airbus and Boeing to order 500 aircraft. If confirmed, it would be the largest ever by a single airline in terms of volume.

IndiGo, one of Airbus’ largest customers, is also expecting the delivery of nearly 500 aircraft out of a total order of 830 A320 family aircraft placed with the European manufacturer.
