One in four adults experience symptoms of indigestion. Indigestion is persistent pain or discomfort that occurs in the area above the navel. Many experience bloating (a feeling of fullness) and heartburn.

Certain foods promote indigestion, so it is best to avoid them:

Heavy foods (those containing a lot of fat and/or spices, fried foods)
Tomatoes and onions
Alcoholic drinks, carbonated soft drinks, coffee
Chocolates, sweets with syrup
Sour fruits
What else can you do?
Indigestion is also related to many lifestyle habits
Therefore, it would be a good idea to quit smoking
Avoid strenuous work and exercise following eating
Avoid drinking liquids and eating food two hours before going to bed
Avoid tight clothing and tight belts
Reduce stress and anxiety
Limit your body weight, especially if you are overweight or obese
Avoid stomach-irritating medications (such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
Finally, for immediate and prolonged relief of indigestion there are special antisecretory drugs, in various forms. Therefore, if your symptoms are severe or persistent, it is best to consult your doctor.
