The president of the Gabonese Association for Assistance to Indigeneous Indigenous Women (AGAFI), Jeanne-Marthe Minkoué-Mi-Ella, urged in a solemn declaration read in front of the esplanade of the Senate palace in Libreville, all citizens to vote “ Yes” for the draft constitution which will be submitted to a referendum on November 16.
AGAFI maintains that this text ensures the promotion of a more equitable society respectful of diversity.
According to the NGO, this draft constitution is not limited to a simple reform, but constitutes a real step forward towards a nation that is fairer, more inclusive and more respectful of each community. Particular emphasis is placed on social inclusion, the defense of human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups. All these issues are in line with the concerns of indigenous peoples, maintains Ms. Minkoué-Mi-Ella, also a member of the Transitional Senate.
« By voting ‘Yes’, we support a constitution that protects minorities and strengthens our rights“, underlines Minkoué-Mi-Ella. The vote thus represents a historic opportunity to guarantee a future where Gabonese children will have access to better prospects, and where all citizens will be able to actively participate in the development of the country, without discrimination or exclusion, she continues.
Beyond these considerations, “Yes” will also be a means of “ make our voices heard, recall our ancestral values and build together a united and strong Gabon“, adds the president of the NGO AGAFI. A positive vote would thus mean “ Yes to hope, Yes to dignity » for the entire Gabonese communities, the Baka, Babongo, Bakoya, Aka, Akoula, Akowa, Bavarama, Barima and Bakouyi peoples.
Faced with these major issues, the indigenous peoples who are members of the NGO AGAFI solemnly call on the Gabonese to make the historic choice of voting “Yes” on November 16, to build a common future in justice and mutual respect.
