In recent months, more than 1,000 indigenous people had settled in the National Park, and, although initially the mediation attempts to have him abandoned failed, on the night of Friday, May 7, it was agreed to transfer him to another point in Bogotá. Well, this Saturday, first thing in the morning, several vehicles arrived at the meeting point where they will head towards La Florida Park, an area where other groups from this community have also settled.

There are 12 dump-type vehicles and 20 buses that are present at the site. However, the process has been delayed by the constant rains that have hit Bogotá since dawn. Both the Personería de Bogotá and the mayor’s office of the capital have supported the logistics of the process that seeks to provide greater guarantees and security to the communities..

It is important to note that these indigenous people will be temporarily located in La Florida Park, while they decide whether to return to their territory or embark on a new journey. From six in the morning, the Bogotá Government Secretariat installed a Unified Command Post for the definition of the Operational Plan for the transfer to the west of Bogotá.

According to the District, there is a wide deployment of logistics personnel to deal with the situation and install all the natives who decided to leave for La Florida Park, this, taking into account that the permanence of the communities in the place will be during the time agreed in the dialogue table that took place.

Some of the original groups that were initially located in the center of the city have also been transferred to the Bogotá transport terminal, as they will return directly to their regions of origin, despite having the opportunity to remain in the capital with the rest of the community.

The Bogota Ombudsman explained what will be the process that this ethnic population will carry out from this Saturday: initially the residents will hand over the National Park once more, where they stayed for at least nine months. Taking into account what was agreed at the meeting with the district, the La Florida Comprehensive Protection Unit (UPI) was enabled to temporarily live in the place.

At the time the move has been completed, the process of restitution of rights will begin through the Unit for Comprehensive Reparation to Victims, the accompaniment of this entity will allow the establishment of a route of accompaniment so that the communities gradually return to their territories. .

According to the Personería, all the communities that arrive to temporarily settle in the UPI La Florida will have various benefits that were achieved at the dialogue table. The services that can be accessed are:

– Feeding kits

– Transport and mobility

– School assistance services

Health care

– Early childhood care

– Spaces for commerce

Taking into account that several of the natives chose to return to their areas of origin, they will have several guarantees from national and territorial entities, in addition to receiving state support to undertake their trips. On the other hand, the District carried out a characterization of the settled population, with which it was able to verify that there were 1,919 people, 991 women, 928 men and 676 children, who ranged between 0 and 11 years of age; In addition, at least 34 women were pregnant.

It is important to keep in mind that this community was involved in several controversies in the vicinity of the National Park. Nevertheless, In recent weeks there have been some confrontations with the authorities, it has been shown how some members of the ESMAD disproportionately used their force and attacked women who were with their children on their backs.
