Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry have been charged in the contempt of election commission case. Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan heard the contempt Election Commission case in Adiala Jail.
During the hearing, PTI founder Imran Khan and Satwat Pakistan Party leader Fawad Chaudhry were present in the court room.
In the court, the charge sheet was read out to the accused, on which they denied the allegations in the charge sheet. Later, the Election Commission postponed further hearing of the case till January 16.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Interior had apologized for presenting Imran Khan before the Election Commission and requested the trial of Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry in Adiala Jail after taking the opinion of the Law Ministry.
In August 2022, the Election Commission had issued a contempt notice to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry during various meetings, press conferences and interviews, and also issued a notice to the Chief Election Commissioner for contempt of the Election Commission.
The Election Commission mentioned in the notice Imran Khan’s various statements, speeches, baseless allegations leveled against him during press conferences and the words, false statements and fabricated allegations used against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Khan was issued a notice to appear before the commission with his reply on August 30.
The Election Commission spokesperson had said that the Election Commission has issued contempt notices to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry and asked them to appear in person or through a lawyer on August 30.
The notice said that according to PEMRA records, Imran Khan used ridiculous and unparliamentary language against the Election Commission in his speeches, press conferences and statements on May 11, May 16, June 29, July 19, 20 and August 7. , made derogatory statements and leveled baseless allegations which were broadcast live on mainstream TV channels.
