New Delhi: India’s Satwik Sairaj-Chirag Shetty partnership made history in the Asia Badminton Championship. Both of them wrote a new history by winning gold in the men’s doubles category. In the final, the Indian team defeated the Malaysian team consisting of Ong Yew Sin-Teo Yee.
Satwik-Chirag combination won the match with a fierce comeback. After losing the first game with the score of 16-21, the Indian team made a magnificent comeback by winning the next two games with the score of 21-17 and 21-19.
India is winning a gold medal in the tournament following 58 years. Earlier, Dinesh Khanna was the gold medalist for India in the tournament. In 1965, Khanna won gold in men’s singles badminton.
This is India’s best performance in the men’s doubles category of the Asia Championship. The previous best was in 1971 when Dipu Ghosh-Raman Ghosh won the bronze.
