The Indian squad for the ODI World Cup is likely to be announced today. Malayali player Sanju Samson may not be included in the 15-member team. At the same time, it is reported that KL Rahul, who is completely free from injury, may be given a chance.

Team India is currently in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup. BCCI selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar has flown to Sri Lanka to hold talks with the management and finalize the squad, sources said. While announcing the Indian squad for the Asia Cup, Agarkar had also said that the ODI World Cup list will be the same.

The Asia Cup squad is a 17-member unit. Moreover, Sanju was also in the team as Rahul’s backup. But there will be only 15 people in the World Cup team. So two key players will have to be left out. Along with Samson, Prasid Krishna and Tilak Verma also failed to make it to the Indian team. Yuzvendra Chahal, who was not selected in the squad for the Asia Cup, will also miss the World Cup.

At the same time, Ishan Kishan has made good use of the opportunities that have come his way and earned a place in the team. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav have also been included by the BCCI. All-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur have also been included. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj will be in the team to lead the bowling attack. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav may also get a chance.
