Kolkata: Virat Kohli and Team India made history at Eden Gardens. India won the eighth consecutive match in the World Cup. India defeated South Africa by 243 runs, who played in the best form in this world cup. Chasing the target of 327 runs set by India, South Africa were bowled out for 83 runs in 27.1 overs. Virat Kohli’s century and Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket haul gave India a huge victory.

South Africa, who had batted brilliantly in the previous matches, were crushed in front of the Indian bowlers at the Eden Gardens. Their superstar Quinton de Kock (five) was dismissed early. The wicket was thrown as a playdown on Siraj’s ball. Then Temba Bavuma(11), Aidan Markrum(9), Vander Dozen(13), Heinrich Klaasen(1) and David Miller(11) also returned. With this it collapsed to 59 for six.

Marco Janssen and Rabada tried to hold on but they crumbled in front of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Jansen is South Africa’s top scorer with 14 runs. Rabada, who came as the first bowling change, dismissed Rohit and soon Keshav Maharaj dismissed Shubman Gill. With this, India were 93 for two in 10 overs.

Later, the Kohli-Shreyas Iyer combination at the crease took India forward. The duo added 134 runs for the third wicket. With Shreyas Iyer out, India’s run rate dropped. Iyer was fired by Lungi Engidi. Later, KL Rahul came to the crease but the scoring slowed down. Rahul was dismissed by Vander Dozen with a brilliant catch off Janssen. In the last 10 overs, South Africa succeeded to some extent in containing India’s scoring. At one point, it looked like India would rush to 350-400 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 22 runs off 14 balls.

Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Marco Janssen and Shamsi took one wicket each for South Africa.
