Hangzhou: Sri Lanka set a target of 117 runs in the Asian Games women’s cricket final. Batting first, Indian women scored 116 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Except for Smriti Mandana and Jemima Rodrigues, none other than Smriti Mandana might perform well.
After winning the toss and batting, the Indian women’s team suffered a setback early on. India lost opener Shafali Verma as the team score stood at 16. The player returned with nine runs from 15 balls. However, Smriti Mandana raised the score with Jemima Rodrigues, who came out later. Both of them batted cautiously and took the team score past 50 in the ninth over.
With the score at 89, Smriti Mandana lost her wicket. Ranaweera dismissed the player who scored 46 runs in 45 balls accompanied by a six and four fours. Richa Ghosh(9), Harmanpreet Kaur(2) and Pooja Vastrakar(2) who came later might not contribute much. Jemima Rodrigues, who scored 42 runs, showed a brilliant performance. Finally, the Indian innings ended with 116 runs at the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
India’s women’s cricket team is aiming to win gold on its debut at the Asian Games. India secured a ticket to the final by defeating runner-up Bangladesh twice in the semi-finals. But Sri Lanka came by defeating Pakistan, who were chasing a hat-trick of gold.
