The test with an unmanned rocket was successfully completed on Saturday at the space center in Sriharikota in the state of Andhra Pradesh, said Isro boss Sreedhara Somanath followingwards. The test was supposed to demonstrate the function of an emergency system for the evacuation of astronauts and was actually supposed to take place a little earlier, but was postponed at short notice. The authority then said that corrections had been made. This and other tests are expected to lead to a manned mission called Gaganyaan, possibly in late 2024 or 2025. The aim is to take three astronauts to an altitude of 400 kilometers and then return to Earth.

Most recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he wanted his country to send an astronaut to the moon for the first time by 2040 and that there would be an Indian space station by 2035. At the end of August, the Indian probe “Chandrayaan-3” successfully landed on the moon.
