All against Modi – that’s what you could call the new coalition of 26 opposition parties that has been forming in India for a few weeks. This week saw the second major meeting of the alliance, which wants to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from holding a third term next year. The nature of the alliance itself shows how difficult that will be: The 26 parties include forces as diverse as the traditional Indian Congress party, the West Bengal heavyweight Trinamool Congress, the Indian Communist Party – but also the ultra-right Shiv Sena party from Maharashtra .
