New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association has prepared a preliminary list of 800 athletes for the Asian Games to be held in Huangzhou, China from September 23. The last date to submit the preliminary list to the Asian Games organizers was 15th of this month. According to this, the list of 800 people was given. From now on, the number of players will be reduced by negotiating with the Ministry of Sports.
India sent 524 players across 36 sports to the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. It is indicated that there will be more people in the Indian team this time. But in many sports, no final decision has been taken regarding the sending of the team. Sports ministry will take the final decision on whether to send a team even though entries have been given in events like karate, basketball and women’s swimming.
The criteria adopted by the Ministry of Sports in the Jakarta Asian Games is that only those who have reached the top eight positions at the Asian level in the last year in the team events can enter the Asian Games. The Ministry of Sports will provide relaxation in the eligible items. In team sports such as volleyball, the list of those selected for the camp for the Asian Games is given. The final team is selected from the camp.

The list of the final Indian team should be given to the organizers. A decision will be taken by the IOA and the Ministry of Sports within this. Fixtures will be prepared in games including football on 27th July.
Bajrang and Vinesh
Excluded from trials
New Delhi: The wrestling federation’s ad-hoc committee said that Bajrang Poonia and Vinesh Phogat, who led the wrestlers’ strike, were exempted from the selection trials and given direct entry to the Asian Games. They will be included in the Asian Games team as a standby until they win their weight categories in the selection trials scheduled on 22nd and 23rd of this month.
An Olympic medalist, Bajrang is the current gold medalist at the Asian Games. Vinesh also won gold in Rakartha. In this situation, it was decided to include them in the Asian Games team even though the training was stopped due to the strike.
The football team
Igor wants to participate
Coach Igor Stimach has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur requesting to allow the Indian football team to participate in the Asian Games. The Union Sports Ministry is of the opinion that only the teams that come within the first eight ranks at the Asian level should be sent to the Asian Games. Indian football team is ranked 18th. But the coach wants to give the team a chance in the Asian Games, which is confident of winning the title in the recent Intercontinental Cup and SAFF Cup.
