But apart from this, if any woman comes in the ship, the gangway staff used to salute her while coming and going. Now it has been changed. A copy of the policy has been sent to all the commands of the Navy.
In any ship of the Navy, there is a gangway staff to manage the movement. They are posted at the entry of the ship. There are duty officers in it and also sailors. A Navy official said that information was also taken regarding the Navy of different countries whether there is any such rule to salute women there. There is no such rule in most navies. According to a Navy official, women have been in the Navy as officers for a long time and now women are coming in the ranks of sailors as well. She will be involved in all types of duties and may also be in the gangway staff. The idea behind changing the old practice regarding salute is to make Navy more gender neutral.
Indian Navy has also started taking women as Agniveer for the first time. The training of the first batch of Agniveer has been completed in which 340 women are also there. This batch will pass out from INS Chilka on 23 March. Even now, women officers are also deployed in all naval operations in the Navy, whether it is surveillance work in the sea or other work related to operations. Now women Agniveers will also be posted in all the branches.
