Kochi: After winning a medal in the Asian Games, even his own panchayat president did not come to see the Indian hockey player PR. Sreejesh. West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Goal keeper Sreejesh’s reaction came following Ananda Bose congratulated Sreejesh at home yesterday. The Haryana government is giving Rs 3 crore to the gold medal winners of the Asian Games. His hockey teammate Amit Rohidas visited Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik last day. The chief minister gave him a check of one and a half crore rupees. That is their motivation.

The Governor of Bengal was the first to come home to congratulate me. Glad he came. It has been three or four days since he returned following winning the gold. So far no one has contacted from the state government. As I told the Governor of Bengal, even the Panchayat President here did not come to see him. So that’s enough to expect.

This neglect that we all face is something that tomorrow’s generation will learn. When they get the idea that even if they win a medal in the Asian Games, there is no value in the country, instead of going to the sports field, they just study and get a job. Sreejesh pointed out that other states are treating sportspersons well.

On the strength of Sreejesh’s brilliant saves, India defeated Japan in the final and won the gold. It was Sreejesh who opened the Indian net in the Tokyo Olympics as well. India also won a bronze medal in the Olympics. Ananda Bose handed over the special gift of West Bengal Governor and gifts of Raj Bhavan to Sreejesh yesterday.

Jinson Johnson, who won bronze in the 1,500m race at the Asian Games, and Eldos Paul, who won individual gold and the Arjuna Award at the Commonwealth Games, publicly reacted once morest the neglect of the state government yesterday.
