Kochi: After 27 years, the Indian Air Force became the champions of the 73rd Inter-Services Volleyball Championship held in Kochi. In the final, the Indian Air Force defeated the Indian Navy, which had international players, by three sets once morest one.
Air Force reached the final by defeating the former champions Indian Army in three straight sets in the semi-finals. Two teams from Indian Army and one each from Navy and Air Force participated in the tournament.
A team consisting of nine Malayalis including Prasin, Vipinjo, Atul, Shamim, Abhishek, Deepu and Vishnu competed for the Indian Air Force. Years later, when the Indian Air Force won the title, Captain Arun Theramp and Coach Jayakumar are Malayalis.
The players selected from this will wear the jersey in the National Games and for the Senior National Services team.
