India A court of a drunken driving youth, who Porsche Two people were killed in a motorbike collision, bailed on the condition that he would ‘write an article’ on the incident.
The court also asked the 17-year-old boy from Pune in the western state of Maharashtra to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction, undergo counseling sessions and work with the local police for 15 days.
The young man, who has not been named, is the son of a prominent real estate businessman, and the judge’s alleged leniency has sparked outrage across the country.
This accident I happened to be at Kalyani Nagar area of Pune on Sunday morning at around 3:10 AM.
A group of friends were returning home on motorcycles following a party at a local restaurant. When they reached the Kalyani Nagar junction, one of their bikes was hit by the youth’s Porsche, resulting in the death of its two riders, police said.
Police say that following hitting the motorcyclists, the youth rammed his car into the guardrail.
In a video widely shared on social media, a group of passersby can be seen attacking the driver as he was trying to get out of the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as software engineers Anees Odhia and Ashwini Kushta. Both are said to be 25 years old.
The driver was booked at the local police station and charged with speeding, speeding or recklessly causing death and endangering the life or personal safety of a person.
The accused is reportedly four months younger than 18 years, which is the minimum legal age for driving a car in India.
He was reportedly celebrating his Class XII exam results.
He was driving at a speed of 200 km per hour when he collided with the bike.

The boy’s lawyer, Prashant Patel, said that the juvenile accused, arrested by the Pune police, has been granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (Juvenile Court) on certain conditions, which include that the accused should be free from Yerrawaddy traffic. The police will have to work for 15 days, the accused will have to write an essay on the accident, seek treatment from the relevant doctor to help them quit drinking and get psychological counseling and submit a report.
Police said they would appeal once morest the bail order and treat the accused as an adult.
Pune police chief Amitesh Kumar told India Today, ‘We will leave no stone unturned to prove that this is a heinous crime.’
The police have also arrested the boy’s father and two bar owners who allegedly supplied him with liquor.
The legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25 years.
Jogal Kishore Kushta, uncle of one of the victims, told NDTV, ‘We are in shock. He said that it is condemnable that he got bail within 15 hours. He and his parents should be investigated. After Ashwini’s last rites are over tomorrow, we will discuss the matter.’
Another uncle of the victim, Sachin Bokde, said, ‘We want his bail to be canceled and he should remain in police custody. Because of this, an innocent girl, who has seen nothing of life, died.’
Sanjay Raut, a prominent member of the opposition Shiv Sena party in Maharashtra, accused the Pune police of serving pizza and burgers to the accused youth following the accident, India Today reported.
He said that he told ANI news agency that the police commissioner should be suspended. He tried to save the accused. A young couple was killed and the accused was granted bail within two hours.
