However, human spaceflight is a real novelty for the Indian space agency (ISRO). Its future Gaganyaan mission will mark the very first time that India has sent astronauts into space via its own means, and the country is now preparing to test the vehicles that will enable such a manned mission.

During a meeting led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian space agency announced its plan to carry out its first manned flight in 2025, before, obviously, its possible mission to the Moon. Recently, the agency successfully completed the test flight of its Crew Escape System Test Vehicle, the ejection device installed at the top of the rocket which is triggered to quickly move the capsule away in the event of a problem during the first moments of the flight. Soon, ISRO will carry out three test missions of its launcher, without humans on board. In total, the country plans around 20 tests before sending the first astronauts into space.

And the country is already seeing much further!

India will also set up a brand new launch pad and a new generation launcher to be able to realize its “ambitious” space dreams. In addition to establishing the Bharatiya Antariksha Station, or Indian Space Station, by 2035 and launching a manned mission to the Moon by 2040, India also has its sights set on interplanetary missions. Narendra Modi has notably declared himself very interested in the development of an orbiter around Venus and a lander on Mars. To be continued !
