NEW DELHI: The first match of the India-South Africa Twenty20 series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi was marred by a series of boundaries as batters filled the field. Video footage of some of the fans turning around and fighting with each other has been widely circulated on social media.
The incident came to light after a fan recorded a video of a ‘fried foot’ in the corner of the stadium and shared it on social media. The cause of the conflict is not clear.
While one group of fans commented that the scenes of the match were reminiscent of the wrestling match and that it was fun to watch, another group of people took to the stage to strongly condemn such clashes, which posed a threat even to the safety of the spectators.
India lost the toss and opted to bat, scoring 211 for 4, but were led by David Miller and Rossi van der Dasson to take South Africa to a 1–0 lead in the five – match series. The second match of the series will be played in Cuttack on Sunday.
