In his reply to the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister stated that out of the five existing permanent members, four countries support India becoming a permanent member. He also stated that China is still being approached with the aim of disbanding the UNSC. China is the only country that opposes India’s entry. He explains that one of India’s most important goals is to expand the UN Security Council and get permanent membership for India.

The central government has made it clear that the government is already implementing many things to ensure international support and India is raising this issue in many bilateral and multilateral discussions. Last year, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman also stated that China has no objection to the expansion of the UN Security Council if the work of the UN Security Council is improved. V Muraleedharan also pointed out this matter.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said last year that the bailout might be expanded if the voices of developing countries and small countries were more receptive. This is what V Muraleedharan also reminded.
Currently, the committee consists of five permanent members and 10 temporary members. All 10 members are elected by the UN General Assembly for a two-year term. Permanent members are Russia, UK, China, France and US. India has the support of all other countries except China. A decision cannot be implemented without the support of all permanent members. But apart from India, Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Japan are also competing for permanent membership.
It is estimated that India will overtake China as the most populous country by 2023. The central government hopes that this will be in favor of permanent membership. Diplomatic experts also point out that having the most populous country in the world in the committee that takes the helm of international peace will be a strong need.
But India, which has been trying for stability for the last four decades, has not yet been able to do so. India had also criticized the slow pace of UN proceedings in the General Assembly yesterday. India’s criticism was that these negotiations will continue for the next 75 years.
The other day, India pointed out that the UN Security Council was expanded 57 years ago and at that time there were only 113 countries in the General Assembly. The Indian Ambassador stated that it is necessary to expand the Security Council at present and India is the best candidate.
