Until now, the head of the diplomatic mission of this Asian country in Gabon resided in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
India is considering opening a permanent diplomatic mission in Libreville, Gabon. Dhruv Mittal, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of India in Gabon, with residence in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, made this known on July 30, 2024, during an audience granted to him by Michel Régis Onanga Ndiaye, Gabonese Minister of Foreign Affairs.
And the latter gave his agreement for the opening of this representation. “Gabon gives its agreement for the opening of this diplomatic representation, this demonstrates the will of the new authorities to maintain the commitments of our country towards its partners and at the same time, demonstrates the stability that reigns in our country. The opening of this representation is also the diplomatic attraction of our country”, indicates the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The opening of a diplomatic representation in Libreville should increase trade between India and Gabon. According to data from the Ministry of Economy, India will be among Gabon’s top ten trading partners in the fourth quarter of 2023. A multifaceted partnership that is even deeper in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, mining, infrastructure and wood.
Indeed, India has been present in Gabon for over 30 years. Its companies operate in several sectors of activity. In the special investment zones (ZIS) of Nkok and Ikolo alone, there are around fifty Indian companies.
